Limited quantity labels are used to mark dangerous goods which are being transported in smaller volumes, according to the Australian Dangerous Goods code. The LQ placard features a large white vertical band on a black diamond shaped background.
Signage of dangerous goods is done so in accordance with local State and Territory legislation. Identifying these dangerous solids, liquids or gases is important to keep people, animals, property and the environment safe from harm.
Transporting dangerous goods in limited quantities is referred to in the Australian Dangerous Goods code – the document provides guidance on the reduced regulatory requirements for transporting dangerous goods in limited quantity packaging (LQ). These are usually relatively small packages containing specific low-hazard dangerous goods.

The Dangerous Goods List (Table 3.2.3 of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG)) excludes a large range of high-hazard dangerous goods from qualifying for limited quantity packaging. This includes dangerous goods with explosive properties and Packing Group I dangerous goods. Approximately one third of all UN entries are excluded.
