Flammable Safety Cabinets: What Are They and Why Are They Important?

Flammable safety cabinets are specialised storage cabinets designed to safely contain Class 3 flammable liquids and combustibles, which help ensure compliance with AS1940-2017. These cabinets are constructed from heavy duty, double-walled, powder-coated steel which provide immense fire protection.

Flammable goods sit on perforated, adjustable shelving above an in-built containment sump.  This means that any leaks or spills from containers will be contained to the inside of the cabinet. The self-closing doors means that the cabinet can never be left open or ajar, improving the contained security of the stored flammable goods.

The importance of flammable liquid storage cabinets is crucial, particularly in workplaces that handle, transport or store Class 3 dangerous goods daily. By providing a dedicated space for these substances, they significantly reduce the risk of fire hazards. In addition to safeguarding against potential fires, flammable safety cabinets also enhance overall organisational efficiency. By clearly designating areas for hazardous materials storage, they promote better inventory management and ensure that employees can easily access necessary supplies while maintaining a safe working environment. Implementing these cabinets is a vital step towards creating a culture of safety within any workplace dealing with flammable substances.

Meeting the requirements of Australian Standard AS1940-2017

Compliance with AS1940-2017 is essential for any organisation that handles flammable liquids in Australia. This standard outlines the Australian regulations for the storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids, ensuring safety in workplaces where these substances are present.

One of the key aspects of AS1940-2017 compliance is the proper use of storage cabinets designed specifically for flammable liquids. These cabinets must meet stringent requirements to minimise risks associated with fire hazards. For instance, they should be constructed from materials that can withstand high temperatures and equipped with features such as self-closing doors and adequate ventilation.

All of our Spill Crew flammable safety storage cabinets are not only built to meet the requirements of this standard, they are made right here in Australia so you can have peace of mind they are built to some of the highest safety standards in the world.
